Preston Vocational Centre, Curriculum Offer 14 – 16 students
Here at Preston Vocational Centre we deliver good quality Construction training to young people from across Lancashire, each student or school group follow a tailored training program covering a number of qualification units.
All students are supported to complete the qualifications by a dedicated team of construction industry experts and tutors. Students have pastoral support through the centre as they work from our 2nd and 3rd year UCLAN social work students.
The centre is a great place to learn with more than 80% of activities ae in practical trades, this along with up to date facilities, a committed team and our passion to help young people achieve makes Preston Vocational Centre the choice for a great number of schools in Lancashire and surrounding areas.

Intent
The Key Aims and Intentions of the Open Awards Level 1 Diploma in Exploring Construction and Building Crafts is to provide learners with a broad introduction to the construction industry, helping them:
- Develop Practical Skills Learners gain hands-on experience in a variety of construction trades such as bricklaying, joinery, plumbing, painting, and decorating.
- Promote Safe Working Practices Emphasis is placed on understanding and applying health, safety, and welfare principles in a construction environment.
- Support Career Exploration The qualification allows learners to explore different building crafts, helping them make informed decisions about future training or employment in the construction sector.
- Build Confidence and Employability Through practical tasks and project-based learning, learners develop teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills essential for the workplace.
- Provide a Progression Pathway It serves as a stepping stone to further education or apprenticeships in construction or related fields, such as a Level 2 Diploma or NVQ.
